Spend a long weekend in Québec City

We aren’t ones to turn down world-class food and wine and gorgeous backdrops for our Instagram photos. So, when we stepped out of the car on our road trip to Québec City, we weren’t disappointed. We took travel expert Jenn Weatherhead with us to discover some standout spots in the gorgeous region of Québec City. In partnership with Québec City Tourism.

Le Grand Marché

Let’s face it - when we’re travelling in new cities, a farmer’s market is charming but sometimes… well, we’d rather relax at a restaurant. Until now. Le Grand Marché is a beautiful bright building with mouthwatering bites from tons of local vendors like Ferme Arthur Cauchon, Les Jardins du Petit-Pré and Comptoir Demers - all packed to the rafters with delicious gourmet food perfect for an al fresco lunch. We checked out all the market stalls for everything from sweets to pretty flowers and stocked up on some goodies for friends and family (which we accidentally ate on the way home #sorrynotsorry).

Petit Champlain

Not only is the Old Town in one of the oldest commercial districts in North America, it’s perfect for those Instagram photos we mentioned. Quartier du Petit Champlain is a magical little area near Place Royal and the beautiful Notre-Dame-des-Victoires. Get to Petit Champlain before sunset and find a lively patio so that you can drink in the sights, the charm and, most importantly, the tasty local wine. Try Le Lapin Sauté to indulge in some out-of-this-world poutine followed by an indulgent dessert.

Parc de la Chute-Montmorency

It’s only a twenty minute drive outside the main city’s walls and Parc de la Chute-Montmorency boasts 83-metre-high waterfalls. An absolute highlight of any trip to Québec City, these falls and their breathtaking views are actually one and a half times higher than Niagara Falls! (We were like, Niagara Falls who?) To get to the top, take the gondola up for an easy ride or hike up the stairs for some extra cardio to work off all that cheese you just ate / are about to eat.

Île d'Orléans

For more Insta fame, we snapped the scenic views that dominate the idyllic Île d'Orléans with its countryside, farms and wineries. After a quick stop by La Boulange for lunch, we made our way to Vignoble Ste-Pétronille to taste some delicious local wines while basking in the sun. We picked up some delectable jam at Confiturerie Tigidou before heading to Cassis Mona & Filles for some blackcurrant delicacies. We had no idea blackcurrant vinaigrettes existed, but trust us, it’s delicious.

La Barberie

We wanted to pretend we were locals, so we went off the beaten track to take a tour of La Barberie, a pioneer micro-brewing cooperative (which, as artisan beer lovers, we can totally vouch for). It’s located in the trendy Saint-Roch neighbourhood (think Brooklyn), and the large relaxed terrace is known for its stunning urban landscaping. The beer flight was amazing, and you’re allowed to bring your own food, so we ate all the delicious food we bought at the Marché. And they have board games. Enough said.

Local food and good wine with an incredible atmosphere as the backdrop - that’s Québec City. We discovered a city full of bustling streets with more delicious food and wine than you can get through in one trip, which makes for a perfect reason to plan a future jaunt to la belle province.
